AfroGrow: Shaping the future of agroforestry in Africa

The AfroGrow Project aims to promote sustainable agroforestry across Africa by addressing climate resilience, biodiversity conservation, and socio-economic development. Through six Living Labs, AfroGrow fosters collaboration among local communities, researchers, and policymakers to co-create agroforestry solutions tailored to diverse contexts. AfroGrow also focuses on capacity building, gender equality, and social inclusion, ensuring that all stakeholders, including women and youth, are actively involved in decision-making and implementation. Through participatory research, impact assessments, and the development of suitability maps, AfroGrow will guide informed policy decisions to support sustainable land management across the African Union.

HSG’s Role: Driving Societal Impact and Equity

HSG will serve as a key social science expert in the socio-economic assessment of agroforestry systems, examining existing inequalities in agroforestry decision-making and evaluating stakeholder engagement and social and economic impacts. Additionally, HSG will contribute to management and higher education initiatives, design user-oriented training activities, and support awareness-raising efforts for a climate-neutral future while actively promoting equity and inclusivity in all aspects of engagement.
